    Texas Oak Wilt

What is it and how does it spread?

The trees above are being treated with a product called Propizol. It is a copper based fungicide. The treatment is done on trees that have symptoms of Oak quilt or have not developed the symptoms yet. Preferably not yet.

The trees that are surrounding those being treated are typically already dead from the disease. The disease is spread through root graphs. Live oaks, have a remarkable ability to graft their root systems together and a root system can go for miles, making all of the trees vulnerable to this disease.

In addition to treating the trees, one can trench ahead of the disease, but the trenching has to sever all of the roots. Unfortunately, that is not a definitive solution because having one small root connected to another, can transfer the disease. It's called jumping the trench. Contact us if you feel your trees may be affected, or would like more information.
